Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, the Nigeria Olympic Committee serves as both the National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee of Nigeria. As such, the NOC is responsible for the training, entering and funding of Nigerian teams for the Olympic, Paralympic, Youth Olympic, Commonwealth and African Games, being the custodian of the Olympic Movement in the Nigerian territory. The NOC was incorporated with the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission on 12th March, 1993, as a registered non-governmental body, under the Companies and Allied Matters Decree No. 1 of 1990. In addition to its international Games responsibilities and its work to advance the Olympic Movement, the NOC aids Nigerian Olympic and Paralympic athletes through their National Governing Bodies, providing financial support and jointly working to develop customized, creative and impactful athlete-support and coaching education programs. The NOC also supports Nigerian Olympic and Paralympic athletes on and off the field of play through programming such as direct athlete funding, International Olympic training scholarships and marketing opportunities and career services. The NOC also oversees the process by which Nigerian Cities bid to host the Olympic/Paralympic Games, the Youth Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games, while also playing a supporting role in the bid processes for hosting a myriad of other international competitions. Further, the NOC approves theNigerian trials sites and procedures for the Olympic, Paralympic, Youth Olympic, Commonwealth and All Africa Games team selections.
