GLASGOW, SCOTLAND — Team Nigeria’s contingent at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games posted strong performances across multiple sporting disciplines on Tuesday, July 28. The nation’s athletes mounted fierce campaigns in track and field, boxing, and team sports as competition intensified at the Games.
Athletics: Sprint Battles and Field Finals
On the track, Nigeria’s sprinters faced high-stakes battles in the 100m semi-finals.

Men’s 100m: Nicholas Fakorede put up a strong fight in Semi-final 3, finishing 4th in a competitive 10.06 seconds. Favour Ashe also pushed hard in his heat, placing 5th in 10.07 seconds.

Women’s 100m: Miracle Ezechukwu delivered an encouraging performance in rainy conditions, finishing 4th in Semi-final 3 with a time of 11.23 seconds. Rosemary Chukwuma pushed through a mid-race setback to complete her heat, while Blessing Ogundiran was unable to start.

Women’s Hammer Throw Final: Oyesade Olatoye represented Team Nigeria in the final, recording a best throw of 63.27m to finish 8th overall against a world-class field.
